Pagosa Springs

For the past week we have been in Colorado. Colby was able to attend the AAPG Geology Conference in Denver, so we jumped on the opportunity to go! We stayed with my family during the week and then once the weekend came we drove down to Pagosa Springs. Right before the town of Pagosa Springs we drove through Wolf Creek Pass. At the overlook of the pass is my absolute favorite place in the world! I love making this drive (and have several times). We always stop at the lookout just to take in it's beauty! My dream one day is to have a cabin in the mountains in this area of beautiful Colorado! I'm so happy we were able to spend the weekend here! We went hiking to treasure falls, visited Chimney Rock, looked for geodes and fossils, visited a wildlife park, went to the hot springs and went fishing.

This fence did not look strong enough for this Grizzly!

I was thinking how I am really glad the wolves can't get to me.

They probably would have eaten me if they could!
Can you believe this view!!? Gorgeous!

Colby's monster Bass. In all, we caught 7 fish!

After a few days we parted ways with my family and drove part of the way back to Midland. We drove through Chama, New Mexico and camped one night at Lake Heron's State Park. The view was beautiful and we did a little bit of fishing (caught nothing), but we had fun. The next morning we had planned to look for fossils again at the lake's edge, but of course the weather had different plans. It rained hard for a while. We could hear the thunder coming and decided to put our stuff in the car. We got everything in the car right before the rain...except the tent. We waited while the storm passed through. It looked nice and clear, so we made a fire and let the tent dry a bit. But not 30 minutes later we saw more dark looming clouds and once again the rain came hard. So we finally gave up and just packed up the tent wet and drove home.
