Glenwood Springs

Colby and I have one last full week here in Colorado and of course it happens to be super busy! But more about that later. This past weekend was the John Family Reunion. We all met in Glenwood Springs to go to Glenwood Caverns a small amusement park atop a mountain. Although small, it has the best rides! We went on Friday and there were no lines! I think the longest line was a 15 minutes wait...need I say more. And since we just bought a Gopro on craigslist we got some awesome footage. My family also took family pictures, but we did not know anyone so we just hooked up a camera on a tripod and took them ourselves. They turned out pretty good, we were all a little sad though because our sister Filly was missing from this grand adventure!

Well, I will just post pictures and let that be that, but in other news..our car broke down completely an hour away from home when we were driving back from Utah. But I will save that for another post. Stay tuned :)

14ers Here I come!!

Colby and I had another great weekend! I climbed my first 14er, went on a fun date, and rediscovered a paradise cove from long ago. All-in-all it was a very very eventful weekend! I will start with Mount Democrat. My dad, little brother, Colby and I planned to climb four 14ers on a six mile hike, but after I did Mount Democrat (which was the hardest part), the thunder clouds started coming and I decided we should get off. I am a little disappointed in myself for not finishing when I know I could have, but I was worried about being on the mountains with the storm and to be honest I did not really enjoy the climb. I know, I know; this may astonish the Hazard family, depending on who you are, but I figured I did not like it. Only when I made it to the top did I really enjoy it! Even then, the wind was blowing very hard and it was freezing, but I am glad I did a 14er. I want to do more which even surprises myself since I did not like it very much, but I think it is just because I have not experienced it enough. So I am not completely giving up on the idea, but I will try again and little by little I think I may enjoy more and more. However, after the climb we decided to do some four-wheeling, which led us to 1,000 years old bristle-cone pines, and we are going back up with the jeep so we can experience more of it. Then on the way home my dad had the idea that we should go to this place that I had been tons of times with my friends. I call it paradise cove because not very many people knew about it. It is a little like a watering hole I guess with great cliff jumping tucked into a cove. You have to hike in a bit to get to it. The only problem was was I only remembered half the way to get there. I did not know the roads, but I said we should try to get there from me trying remember land marks. And you know what, it worked! I was very happy that I remembered this little slice of paradise when I have not been there for four years! So this indeed was a great weekend.

Next, Colby and I had a date night! We have not had one for a very long time and it was nice to have some alone time. We started off with attending the temple where we were married (by the way..have you heard the goods news!? If not here is the link: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=1070&sid=26303164 ). Then we went out to dinner and completed it with going to a fancy movie theater because my mom gave us a gift card. It was so nice. Colby and I noticed that this was our first non-cheap theater together. We don't mind waiting for the movies to get to the cheap theater, but it was nice not having to watch a movie through someones else's head.

That's about it, but other news is that I read this book by Mitch Albom called "The Time Keeper." It was a very short and great book if you are looking for something quick. However short, it had a really good point and usually all his books inspire. It made you think about the time we have here on earth and how everyone keeps the time on everything! We can never forget about it because we are always ticking away, but I am so grateful to have the perspective of the gospel and to know that our time here is only a snippet. We have eternity to be with our loved ones and even though our earthly life is short it does not compare with all the wonderful times we will continue to have with loved ones.

Below are some pics of a great weekend! I hope everyone is still enjoying life and having fun and remembering the small and simple moments in life that make you smile.

These first 2 pictures are from when Colby and Spence climbed Quandary Peak a couple weeks ago.

These next pics are from our camp and climb of Mount Democrat

We made it!! Yay!

It was so cold and the wind was really strong even though you can't tell in this picture.

1,000 years bristle-cone pines
I forgot to mention that on the way up to our camp we found the shire! :)

Secret paradise cove! The water is really cold, but refreshing.
